Victoria has some of the best cancer outcomes in the world and is recognised as having a leading cancer system. However, benefits from our world class system are not experienced equally by all Victorians, and that gap is widening. People living outside metropolitan areas, from lower socio-economic groups, who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, or from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, are more likely to be diagnosed with late stage or preventable cancer and have poorer outcomes.
The health system, particularly the cancer sector, requires more resources and support to build the capacity to assist patients facing multiple challenges and disadvantages. While great work is already underway, a coordinated, whole-system approach is vital to ensure everyone receives fair and effective care throughout their cancer journey.

The Cancer Equity Framework is a call to action to make cancer care fair and accessible for everyone in Victoria. It unites leaders, educators, researchers, health workers, and the community to prioritise health equity in cancer care. The Framework guides the VCCC Alliance in collaborating with members, consumers, and the broader health sector to improve accessibility and effectiveness of cancer care. By working together, we aim to share knowledge, develop activities, and create resources that drive cultural and systemic change, ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of care.
