Education program

Lead from lived experience: Enhancing cancer care

A leadership masterclass for consumers

This pioneering program aims to support and amplify leaders with lived experience of cancer, assisting them to shape the future of cancer care through their invaluable perspectives.

This pilot program has been developed with the Health Consumers Centre and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to deliver a transformative experience for emerging and experienced diverse cancer consumers.

A dynamic co-design team comprising of lived experience experts has come together with partner organisation staff, along with specialists in consumer engagement, research, and diversity, to collaboratively shape an innovative and immersive leadership program.

The pilot program will be co-facilitated by consumer leaders and will include three key elements

  • In-person and online education
  • Peer exchange
  • Project placements

Education

Grounded in co-design methodologies, the program will include a blend of in-person workshops and online modules, supported by a carefully co-designed curriculum, clear learning objectives, and strong evaluation metrics.

Peer exchange

The peer exchange component of the program will match a consumer mentor with a participant. The mentor will also be assisted with training, support and resources, which have been co-designed by the co-design team.

Consumer project placements

Program participants will engage in structured project placements across partner organisations and respective member organisations. These placements will include dedicated support and guidance for consumers, supervisors to ensure meaningful, supported engagement in real-world settings.
