Deputy co-lead, Lower gastrointestinal cancer

Lower gastrointestinal oncologist, Western Health

A/Prof Margaret Lee is a Medical Oncologist at Western Health and an integral member of the VCCC Alliance. Her clinical and research focus is on lower gastrointestinal cancers, with a strong emphasis on integrating research into patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and translational innovation. She has contributed to numerous VCCC Alliance initiatives, including the Personalised Cancer Program and as co-lead of the multi-site Research Coordination Project.

A/Prof Lee is actively involved in investigator-led and cooperative group GI studies, including colorectal ctDNA trials (DYNAMIC), translational organoid models to guide therapy selection (FORECAST), and international multi-centre data collaborations to inform adjuvant therapy (SPACE-FLOT). She also serves as Medical Oncology Co-Chair for the 2025 Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group Annual Scientific Meeting.

Committed to education and workforce development, A/Prof Lee supervises medical students and physician trainees and contributes to the Victorian Medical Oncology Training Group teaching program. Her work emphasizes evidence-based practice, patient engagement, and fostering cross-institutional collaboration to advance lower GI cancer research, education, and care within the VCCC Alliance.
